Philippe Leduc, an accomplished offensive tackle from the Bol d’Or champions Vieux-Montréal Spartiates, has signed a CIS Letter of Intent committing to the Concordia Stingers.
“We’re thrilled,” said assistant head coach Patrick Donovan. “Philippe does very well in school. He is a true student-athlete. On the field he has great tenacity and is very aggressive. We’re very excited to have him as part of the Stingers family.”
Leduc is an important addition because he can contribute right away and he comes from a program that has a great winning tradition. The Spartiates have played in the Quebec Division 1 championship in 16 of the last 20 years.
The six-foot-two, 285-pound tackle won a Bol d’Or championship with Vieux-Montréal in 2014. He did not play football in 2013 but was with Collège FX Garneau in 2012.
Leduc will study Sociology at Concordia. He has a long-term academic plan that includes pursuing graduate work and a career in teaching and coaching.
“I choose Concordia because of the energy around the program,” Leduc said. “The coaches, the Donovans and Matt Connell are also a big part of my decision.“Concordia is the place to be for the next few years.”
The Lévis, Que. native will join the Stingers at training camp this August.
