Explosive CEGEP running back to join Stingers

The Concordia football staff is thrilled to announce Jean-Guy Rimpel, an all-star running back from the Collège Edouard-Montpetit Lynx, has committed to pursuing his university career with the Stingers.

Last season the Montreal North native turned heads with an astounding 966 yards rushing and four touchdowns in 10 games with his Division 1 team.

The six-foot-one, 200-pound back played three years for the Lynx rolling up a total of 1651 yards rushing and eight TDs in regular season play.

“A back of Jean-Guy’s quality, a Division 1 all-star, that’s a big get for us,” said Stinger offensive co-ordinator Matt Connell. “At his size, you don’t get many tailbacks like that. He’s very explosive in the open field and his work ethic is exceptional. All he does is train. He’s going to fit in very well with the Stinger family.”

The highly sought-after recruit also runs a 4.62 40-time.

Rimpel, who also played football with the St. Leonard Cougars in the Quebec midget AAA league, explains why he chose the Stingers.

“When I went to visit Concordia it felt like home,” he said. “I felt comfortable with the players and the coaches. Also, I thought I could make a difference and I thought this is my best chance to win a Vanier Cup.”
