Top midfielder joins women's soccer team

Jorge Sanchez, head coach of the Concordia women’s soccer program, is pleased to announce midfielder Kaitlyn Fournier has committed to the Stingers and started training with the team in January.

The 21-year-old Pincourt, Que. resident is a very accomplished athlete and brings a lot of quality experience and skill to the Stingers.

"Kaitlyn is a very dynamic attacking-minded player,” said Sanchez. “She adds instant offence to our team with her ability to create scoring chances, and her wide range of passing ability will allow us to diversify our attacking options."

The Psychology major played youth soccer with the Lac St Louis Lakers in the west end of Montreal. She won a gold medal at the Canadian national club championships in 2008 with her U16 team.

At the senior level, she has represented the Lakeshore Soccer Club for the last three years and has also been called up for games with the Laval Comets who play in the women's semi-pro North American W-League.

Fournier was part of the Quebec provincial team program, winning a bronze medal at U14 all-star nationals and also a gold medal when she was captain of her U16 team.While with the provincial program, she was selected to train with the CNHP (National Training Centre).

Fournier played soccer at Dawson College in 2010 and at John Abbott College in 2012 and 2013. She was an RSEQ all-star in her final year of CEGEP.

The first chance to see Founier represent the Stingers is this Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. when Concordia hosts the McGill Martlets in indoor soccer action at the Stinger Dome.
