Veronica Keefe and Trevor Banks of the wrestling team have been named PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 15.
Keefe, a fifth-year athlete, won the Atlantic-Quebec qualifying tournament in Fredericton on the weekend. She competed in the 72-kilo weight class. The victory earned her a berth in the CIS championships in Edmonton Feb. 27-28. She is the defending gold medallist.
A 23-year-old native of Winsloe North, P.E.I., Keefe is a Biology student at Concordia.
Banks, a fourth-year athlete, was also dominant at Atlantic-Quebec wrestling qualifying events last Saturday. He was the best of five competitors in the 54-kilo weight class. He will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the CIS championship next week.
A 21-year-old student from Charlottetown, P.E.I., Banks is majoring in Software Systems.
