Veronica Keefe and Trevor Banks of the wrestling team have been named PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending March 1.
Keefe, a fifth-year athlete, won a gold medal at the CIS championships in Edmonton on Saturday. Competing at 72 kilos, she won all three of her preliminary matches on Friday. The following day in the first-place match, she won by injury default over Gracelynn Doogan (Guelph Gryphons).
A 23-year-old native of Winsloe North, P.E.I., Keefe is a Biology student at Concordia.
Banks, a fourth-year athlete, was also dominant at the national championship. He won his first medal, a silver, at nationals after a couple of fifth-place finishes the last few years. At 54 kilos, he rolled through his three preliminaries before losing the gold medal match by decision (9-6) to Josh Bodnarchuk (Saskatchewan Huskies).
A 21-year-old student from Charlottetown, P.E.I., Banks is majoring in Software Systems.
