Hinse, Beauchemin earn OUA East hockey awards

Captain Olivier Hinse and rookie forward Dominic Beauchemin were the Concordia Stingers representatives on the OUA East Division’s men’s hockey honor roll announced this afternoon.

For the second-consecutive season, Hinse, a centre from Sherbrooke, Que., is an OUA all-star and the East Division nominee for the Randy Gregg Award given to the athlete who best exhibits outstanding achievement in hockey, academics and community involvement.

When he’s on the ice, Hinse is one of the most prolific scorers in the country, tying for the OUA lead and finishing second in CIS with 18 goals. Four of those 18 goals came shorthanded, the most by any men’s hockey player in the country, and he also added 13 assists to finish 10th in OUA with 31 points.

When he’s not on the ice, the Stingers captain is a leader in both the community and the classroom. Hinse maintains a 3.17 GPA in Child Studies and has been actively involved in several community initiatives including volunteering as an assistant coach for a local junior AAA hockey team, participating in the Stingers community skating party, and as a guide and media spokesperson for the Ed Meagher Arena renovation project. He also works part-time during the season, approximately 20 hours a week.

Also from Concordia, Beauchemin of Varennes, Que. has been named to the OUA East All-Rookie Team. In 26 games, the former Halifax Moosehead player, collected 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points. He ranks third amongst rookies in the OUA scoring race.
