Goalie Katherine Purchase makes CIS all-rookie team

Halifax native Katherine Purchase capped off an exceptional first year with the Concordia Stingers by being named to the CIS women’s hockey all-rookie team at the Sun Life Financial all-Canadian banquet held at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary Wednesday night.

With a 1.07 goals-against average and a save percentage of .959, the goaltender led both the CIS and the RSEQ. She played 11 of the Stingers’ 20 regular season games allowing just 12 goals and recording two shutouts.

Purchase, an 18-year-old Accounting major, was the RSEQ rookie of the year and a second team all-star.

“She’s a young athlete with lots of upside,” said Stingers head coach Les Lawton. “Our players are confident skating in front of her. Even though she’s in her first year, we’re very happy with her progress and she’s way ahead of where we thought she would be.”
