CFL to evaluate football talent at Concordia combine

For the second straight year, Concordia’s University’s athletic facilities will be the site of the Canadian Football League’s Montreal regional combine.

On March 25 approximately 50 football players from Eastern Canada, including four from the Stingers, will register at 8 a.m. and begin a day-long set of tests, measurements and one-on-one drills in the athletic complex and Stinger Dome. All this will take place under the watchful eyes of the CFL’s scouts, general managers and coaches.

The top performers may earn an invitation to the 2015 National CFL Combine presented by Reebok, which will take place in Toronto, March 27-29. There the players repeat the same activities, plus a few more, and hope to impress the professional scouts who are preparing for the draft in May.

From the Stingers, defensive back Jovan Deschenes-Cober, receiver Jamal Henry, receiver Shayne Stinson and kicker Keegan Treloar will participate.

Defensive back Neil Riley-Grant, who suited up for the Stingers in 2013 and for the Toronto Grizzlies in the junior ranks in 2014, has been invited to the CFL regional combine in Toronto on March 26.

In 2013, Stinger defensive back/returner Kris Robertson wowed the scouts at an eastern regional combine. He was invited to take part in the national event and was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round. He is currently under contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

In 2014, Concordia linebacker Travis Bent was selected from the regional camp to go to the national combine. He was drafted by Saskatchewan last May.
