Donovan announces LOI from top receiver

Mickey Donovan, head coach of the Concordia Stingers football program, is pleased to welcome James Tyrrell, a very accomplished receiver from Holderness School in Plymouth, N.H.

“We’re extremely excited to have James join the football family,” said Donovan. “He’s one of the most athletic receivers I’ve seen in a long time. It’s really hard to find receivers this athletic. He will come in and compete for a starting job right away.”

Tyrrell, a native of Dorval, Que. who came through the highly-respected North Shore football bantam and midget ranks, signed a Letter of Intent and will join the team at training camp in August.

Last season in eight games with the Holderness Bulls, Tyrrell caught 38 passes for 754 yards and nine touchdowns. The six-foot, 190-pound wide receiver looked at several opportunities before deciding to join the Stingers.

“Out of all of my options Concordia felt like the best fit,” Tyrrell said. “I like the coaches. I know they genuinely care for me and will look after me. Also, because of my hard work, I know I can make an impact at Concordia.”

An exceptional athlete, he also played basketball at Holderness. Previously he was in the Sport-études basketball program at John Rennie high school and played his mini through juvenile levels with the Dawson community program. In 2013, he was on Quebec’s entry at the Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Que. His team won a gold medal.

At Concordia, Tyrrell will study Finance in the John Molson School of Business.
