New look Stinger cagers face NCAA team Wednesday

The Murray State Racers, recognized by ESPN as one of the Top 30 basketball programs in modern history, will make their only Quebec stop at Concordia University this Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Racers, who are located in Murray, Kentucky, will meet the revamped Concordia Stingers men’s team in an exhibition game at Concordia gym.

Murray State compiled a win-loss record of 29-6 in 2014-15, including a perfect 16-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Racers have rolled up six straight 20-win campaigns and 28 straight winning seasons.Their last appearance at the NCAA tournament was in 2012 when the team was the sixth seed in the West regional bracket.

Murray State lost 81-57 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday and will meet the Carleton Ravens tonight before travelling to Montreal to play on Wednesday.

The Stingers have made multiple changes to the basketball program in the last couple of months, introducing a new coaching staff and bringing in a very talented recruiting class.

Head coach Rastko Popovic will be away with Team Quebec, so assistant coach Damian Buckley with help from Dwight Walton will be running the Stingers bench on Wednesday.

Montreal basketball fans will also get their first look at new Stinger forwards Jean-Daniel Mathieu, TJ Umar, Schneiders Suffrard, Kiari Gerba and transfer guard Jaleel Webb.

Tickets will be available at the door. Adult tickets are $8 and students/seniors tickets are $5.
