Alex Tessier of the women’s rugby team and Jaleel Webb of the men’s basketball team have been named Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 4.
Tessier, a third-year centre, was exceptional in an 81-5 victory over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or on Sunday. She collected four tries and connected for eight converts. She scored 36 of Concordia’s 81 points. The No. 8-ranked Stingers remain in second place with a 4-1 win-loss record.
A 22-year-old native of Ste. Clothilde de Horton, Que., Tessier is a Mathematics and Statistics student at Concordia.
Webb, a second-year guard, was instrumental in helping the Stingers defeat the Queen’s Gaels 77-76 in overtime in a preseason contest last Friday. He was Concordia’s top scorer with 19 points and top rebounder with nine. His efforts helped Rastko Popovic record his first victory as head coach of the Stingers.
The 23-year-old student from Pierrefonds, Que. is working on a degree in Urban Studies.
