Marie-Ève Martin of the women’s basketball team and Vince De Marinis of the wrestling team are the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 2.
Martin, a fourth-year shooting guard, achieved a very rare feat in the Stingers’ intense 63-62 preseason victory over the Carleton Ravens last Friday in Ottawa. She connected on nine of 16 three-point attempts, including eight in the second half. She led all scorers in the game with 29 points.
A 26-year-old native of Granby, Que., Martin is studying in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Concordia.
De Marinis, a third-year student-athlete, won a gold medal in the 65 kg weight class at the annual Concordia Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Sunday. He beat out six other wrestlers in the category. He helped the Stingers finish first on the university side of the competition and fourth out of 16 groups in the open category.
The 22-year-old student from Montreal is working on a degree in Economics.
