Hinse named to CIS squad to meet Canadian juniors

Concordia Stinger captain Olivier Hinse has been named to the CIS men’s hockey all-star team for a two-game exhibition series versus Canada’s national junior program prospects in December.

The two-game set will take place at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 13 at noon as part of the Canadian junior team’s preparation for the 40th IIHF World Junior Championship in Finland Dec. 26–Jan. 5.

The 23-player CIS roster for the doubleheader is comprised of 11 standouts from the OUA, including Hinse, as well as six apiece from the AUS and Canada West,Hinse, a 24-year-old standout from Sherbrooke, Que., is currently on a tear in the OUA. He scored five goals in two games on the weekend. With two games left before the holiday break, he has 10 goals and 13 assists in 16 games. He has four power play goals and one hat trick.

The fourth-year centre enjoyed phenomenal success on and off the ice in 2014-15. He was presented the Dr. Randy Gregg Award as the Canadian university men’s hockey player who best combines athletics, academics and community service.

On the ice, he was one of the most prolific scorers in the country, tying for the OUA lead and finishing second in CIS with 18 goals in 26 league games. Four of those markers came shorthanded, the most by any player in the nation, and he also added 13 assists to finish 10th in OUA scoring with 31 points.

For its part, Hockey Canada will announce the lineup of players invited to the National Junior Team selection camp tomorrow.
