Linda Morais of the wrestling team and Ken Beaulieu of the men’s basketball team have been named Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 24.
Morais, a fourth-year athlete, finished in first place in the 59 kilos weight class at the Western Invitational Wrestling Tournament last Saturday. It is her third first-place finish in CIS competition this season. She is currently preparing to qualify for the university national championship that takes place at the end of February.
A 22-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ont., Morais is an Exercise Science student at Concordia.
Beaulieu was a key contributor in Concordia’s two-game sweep of the No. 4-ranked McGill Redmen last week. Beaulieu scored 21 points and hauled in seven rebounds in a 95-83 double overtime victory last Thursday at home. Two days later at McGill, he scored 20 points and picked up two rebounds in 68-57 win over the Redmen. Beaulieu's efforts helped move the Stingers into sole possession of first place in the RSEQ conference.
The 22-year-old student from Longueuil, Que. is in studying in the general Arts program.
