Briar Bache of the women’s hockey team and Trevor Banks of the men’s wrestling team have been named Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 31.
Bache, a fourth-year goaltender, was outstanding in Concordia’s 4-2 victory over the No. 8-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees last Friday. She turned away 38 shots in the game. Bache’s goals-against average is now 2.23 on the season.
A 23-year-old native of Barrie, Ont., Bache is a Therapeutic Recreation student at Concordia.
Banks finished in first place in the 54 kilos weight class at the University of New Brunswick Open Wrestling Tournament last Saturday. It is his fifth straight first-place finish in CIS competition this season. He is currently preparing to qualify for the university national championship that takes place at the end of February.
The 22-year-old student from Charlottetown, P.E.I. is in studying in the Computer Science program.
