Standout power forward Olivier Simon joins Stingers

Rastko Popovic, head coach of the Concordia men’s basketball team, is thrilled to welcome six-foot-seven forward Olivier Simon to the Stingers’ family.

Simon, a native of Terrebonne, Que., is in the midst of an exceptional season with Cégep Édouard-Montpetit. He scored 26 points and hauled in nine rebounds to lead the Lynx to a 72-67 victory over the John Abbott Islanders last Friday.

In 11 RSEQ games this season, Simon is averaging 16.5 points (6th in the conference) and 9.5 rebounds (2nd in the conference).

"We are excited to add a player of Olivier's caliber and versatility to our program,” Popovic said. “He is considered the best power forward in Cégep league this year. I can’t wait to see him in a Stingers’ uniform.

“Olivier’s commitment to Concordia shows we continue to attract top talent and are building a program that will be able to compete nationally.”

A former star player with the Félins de Félix-Leclerc in Repentigny, Que., Simon looks forward to studying Leisure Sciences at the university level.

“I chose Concordia because of its academic program and coach Rastko’s (Popovic) vision of basketball,” Simon said. “I like the style of play Rastko has established with the Stingers, and I see myself playing very well with this team.

“Also, I had a great visit with the coaches and Concordia’s staff. I was impressed by the chemistry between all of them. The Stingers are a big family. I just can’t wait to join them next year and proudly wear the Stingers’ jersey.”
