Women's soccer announces first commits for 2016

Head coach Jorge Sanchez is pleased to announce the first three recruits who have committed to the Concordia Stingers women’s soccer program for the 2016 season.

Claudia Asselin, a forward originally from Magog, Que., will help the Stingers’ attack."We are looking to Claudia to add to our offensive output,” said Sanchez.  “She was a proven goal scorer during her youth soccer days and we hope she will replicate this for the Stingers."

Asselin played three seasons of college soccer at John Abbott. Previously, she played in the Ligue de soccer élite du Québec (LSEQ) for Magog. She won the Ballon Bronze in U16 as one of the top three players in the league and was the LSEQ second-leading scorer in her U16 and U17 seasons. She went on to play three seasons in the senior ranks with Sherbrooke’s AAA club.

In 2013 she was part of the Quebec U16 training pool and participated in a game versus France’s U16 team.

The Stingers will also welcome goalkeeper Carmen Milne of Richmond, B.C. this fall.

"Carmen brings a wealth of competitive playing experience and a strong work ethic,” said Sanchez. “She will add depth to the goalie position. I look forward to having her as part of the team this coming season."

Milne is a straight A student from R.A. McMath Secondary School in Richmond, B.C. She plays with Fusion Football Club and trained with the prestigious TSS Soccer Academy.

Defender Madeleine McKenzie of Calgary rounds out the first set of players announced by Sanchez.

"Madeleine displays a high level of athleticism and tactical understanding of the game,” said the coach. “I look for her to compete for playing time on our back line.”

McKenzie is an honor student at Western Canada High School. She was the team captain and MVP the last two years. She also plays with the South West United Soccer Club. Last fall the club won the Alberta U18 provincial championship and went on to capture a silver medal at club.
