Alexandre Gosselin, an assistant captain with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, has committed to the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team.

The defenceman from Lévis, Que. is considered a great talent and a strong leader.

“He’s a great person,” said Concordia head coach Marc-André Element. “He’s the type of player you want to bring to your program – a good hockey player with a good attitude.”

With Cape Breton this season, Gosselin collected eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 64 games. The Screaming Eagles finished seventh out of 16 teams with a 38-24-5-1 record and meet the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in the first round of the playoffs this week.

Gosselin checks in at six foot two and 193 pounds. He’s played four full seasons in the QMJHL. Previously he played midget AAA hockey for the Lévis Commandeurs. He was invited to rookie camp with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013.

“I chose Concordia because I want to get back to Quebec,” said Gosselin who spent his entire junior career with teams from the Maritimes. “I also talked to Marc-André (Element) and he told me a lot of good things about the program. I think it’s a good opportunity for me.”
