3 recruits sign with Stingers women's basketball team

Head coach Tenicha Gittens is pleased to announce three accomplished athletes have committed to joining the 2016-17 Concordia Stingers women’s basketball team.

The Stingers are pleased to welcome Caroline Task, Vanier College’s 2015 Female Athlete of the Year, and Ashley Moss and Marvia Dean, both members of the Bahamian national team who played at Holland College in Charlottetown, P.E.I. last season.

Task is a five-foot-six point guard from Dorval, Que. “Caroline is a natural floor general with a high IQ for the game,” said Gittens.

“She will bring the leadership and confidence needed at the point position for us.”

With the Vanier Cheetahs in 2015-16, Task averaged 8.7 points and four rebounds a game. She ranked fifth in the RSEQ in assists with 51 for a 2.8 average and eighth in steals with 42 for a 2.3.

Task also earned a RSEQ academic merit award in 2016.

Moss is a five-foot-10 forward from New Providence, Bahamas. She was a member of the Holland Hurricanes of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). Holland won its conference title and Moss was the MVP in the championship game.

The Hurricanes went on to win a silver medal at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championships.

“Ashley brings speed, athleticism, rebounding and the defensive ability to defend inside and outside,” said Gittens.

Moss was the 2016 ACAA Defensive Player of the Year. She averaged 7.3 points and 10.8 rebounds a game. She was the second leading rebounder in her conference.

She also has been recognized for her strong academics on several occasions including 2014-2015 when she was CCAA National Scholar Award recipient.

Dean is a six-foot forward from Nassau, Bahamas. She was named to the 2016 ACAA first all-star team. She averages 12.6 points and 11.5 rebounds a game. She ranked first in conference rebounding and fourth in scoring.

“Marvia also brings athleticism, rebounding and a defensive presence for us on the inside,” said Gittens.
