Gregoire, Julien – Athletes of the Week

Richelle Gregoire of the women’s basketball team and Justin Julien of the football team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 2.

Gregoire, a fifth-year guard, was instrumental in helping the Stingers dominate in all three of their games at the Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball tournament last week.

She scored 18 points in an 87-47 win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks to open the action last Friday. The following day she picked up 14 points in a 71-47 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds. On the final day, Gregoire had 17 points to help Concordia better the hosts 78-48.

A 24-year-old native of Ste. Therese, Que., Gregoire is studying Adult Education at Concordia.

Julien, a second-year receiver, caught seven passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Concordia Stingers to a 50-34 victory over the Bishop’s Gaiters in the 30th annual Shrine Bowl game on Saturday.

He helped the Stingers break away in a close game when he hauled in an 81-yard TD pass from quarterback Trenton Miller to give Concordia a 22-16 advantage. His second touchdown came early in the fourth quarter, this one on a 40-strike from Miller.He was named the Concordia offensive MVP in the Shrine Bowl. Julien was also named the RSEQ Offensive Player of the Week.

The 20-year-old student from LaSalle, Que. is working on a certificate in Arts and Science.
