Dean, Cadorette – Athletes of the Week

Marvia Dean of the women’s basketball team and Philippe Cadorette of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 9.

Dean, a forward in her third year of eligibility, was the MVP of the Concordia Classic Basketball Tournament on the weekend.

Her performance had everyone talking. In a 72-51 victory over the UPEI Panthers last Friday, she had 15 points and an astounding 19 rebounds. The following day in a 68-39 win over the Guelph Gryphons, she collected 19 points and 13 rebounds. In the final on Sunday, Dean scored 13 points and picked up two rebounds in just 25 minutes of play, helping Concordia defeat the Ottawa Gee-Gees 62-41.

A 25-year-old native of Nassau, Bahamas, Dean is enrolled in the Certificate of Arts and Science program at Concordia.

Cadorette, a first-year goaltender, gave up just one goal in two outings when the Stingers played back-to-back games against the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont. last weekend.

He posted a shutout, turning away 35 shots in a 6-0 victory last Friday. The following night he turned away 34 of 35 shots in a 3-1 victory. Nipissing’s lone goal came at 19:59 of the third period.

His save percentage in the two games – the first of his university career – was .986.

The 21-year-old athlete from Mont St-Hilaire, Que. is an Independent Studies student at Concordia.
