Stingers announce first women's hockey recruit for 2017

Head coach Julie Chu is pleased to announce Dawson College goaltender Alice Philbert has committed to the Concordia Stingers and becomes the first signing for the 2017 women’s hockey recruiting class.

The St. Bruno, Que. native is currently in her third season with the Dawson Blues. In 2015-16, Philbert had 11 wins and one loss in the RSEQ collegiate conference. Equally impressive were her four shutouts and goals-against average of 1.58. She helped her team reach the RSEQ finals.

“I think Alice is going to be a team-first player and that’s the type of player we like and believe in,” said Chu. “Every day and every night she’s going to give you her full effort. She’s a very consistent goaltender and really calm in the net.”

Current Stinger goaltender Briar Bache is in her final year with the team which means there will be an opening at that position next season.

“Alice will come in and compete and push our other two goalies,” said Alex Petizian, the Stingers’ goaltending coach. “She’s a hard worker. She will battle hard and fight for every puck. She’s very efficient in her movements and quick.”

Philbert played her minor hockey with Richelieu, most recently with the midget AA Express.
