Laetitia Royer of the women’s rugby team and Anthony De Luca of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 6.
Royer, a first-year flanker, was exceptional in Concordia’s three games at the U Sports women’s rugby championship in Victoria last week. She was instrumental in securing a 29-22 victory over the McMaster Marauders in the consolation final to help the Stingers finish fifth overall. Royer was named player of the game in the final. She was also named to the U Sports championship all-star team.
A 25-year-old native of Gatineau, Que., Royer is pursuing a Certificate of Arts and Science at Concordia
.De Luca, a first-year forward, picked up four goals in two games last week. He scored a hat trick in Concordia’s 7-3 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs last Friday. The following day, he scored the lone goal in the Stingers’ tough 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees. After nine games this season, De Luca leads the Stingers with eight goals and five assists for 13 points.
The 21-year-old athlete from Rosemere, Que. is in Independent Studies at Concordia.
