Stingers trio invited to hockey camp for Winter Games in Kazakhstan

Three members of the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey program have been invited to a 40-man training for the Canadian team that will participate in the FISU Winter Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan Jan. 25 to Feb. 10, 2017.

Fifth-year captain Olivier Hinse will lead the trio. The forward originally from Sherbrooke, Que. has eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 13 games. He has experience representing Canadian university hockey in high level competitions. In 2015 he was an assistant captain with CIS all-star team that played two exhibition games versus Canada’s junior national team.

Third-year forward Philippe Hudon of Hudson, Que. has also been invited. An assistant captain with the Stingers, he has two goals and five assists for seven points in 11 games.

Rounding out the trio is rookie sensation Philippe Cadorette. The goaltender from Mont St-Hilaire, Que. has played in 12 games this season posting an 8-3 win-loss record. His goals-against average is 2.66 and his save percentage is .915.

Head coach Brett Gibson (Queen's University) will oversee training camp at Teen Ranch in Caledon, Ont. Dec. 27-30, 2016. He will select the final 22 players to represent Canada in Kazakhstan.

The Winter Games are an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The winter edition is held every two years.
