Stingers beef up line with addition of Jordan Hurley

Concordia assistant head coach Patrick Donovan is pleased to announce all-star offensive lineman Jordan Hurley has joined the Stingers family.

“Jordan is exactly the kind of player we want on the Stingers,” said Donovan. “He’s a team-first player. It’s family first with him and that’s a big asset. Then with his size, ability and work ethic, the sky is the limit. He’s going to have a long career in football and 100 per cent he is going to the next level.”

Hurley is a St. Eustache, Que. native who checks in at six foot five and 325 pounds and he can play guard or tackle. He played football at John Abbott College in 2012 and 2013. He was a RSEQ all-star in his last season with the Islanders.

“At John Abbott I received a lot of help from coach Bob Bindon,” he said. “That’s really where I learned to play offensive line. I have good football smarts and I’ll bring a competitive edge and passion for the game to Concordia. I put my teammates first and I’ll do anything to win.”

Admittedly, Hurley spent the last couple of years trying to find the right fit academically and football-wise.

“I chose the Stingers because they put school first, and it’s one of the only programs that puts academics first,” Hurley said. “Here they put you on an academic path before you step foot on the field. For me doing well in football is a given, but I needed help to get on track academically and that’s what Concordia has done for me.”

Donovan is proud of Hurley’s commitment to his academics. The lineman has done well since enrolling in classes last September.

“Jordan’s work ethic when it comes to school is exceptional,” said the coach. “If he brings even half of that effort to the football field, he’s going to excel. He’s going to be an impact player and he brings more depth and competition to our offensive line. With him we’re going to have one of the biggest and best offensive lines in Canada.”

Hurley will be on the field with the Stingers for winter workouts and spring camp.
