Vanier DT Mike Foresta commits to football Stingers

Concordia defensive co-ordinator Patrick Donovan is pleased to announce Vanier College defensive tackle Mike Foresta has joined the Stingers family.

Foresta has an unusual background for an accomplished football player. He played five years of rugby before switching to football in 2015 when he joined the Vanier Cheetahs. Despite having no football experience, he made the team and recorded nine solo tackles, 10 assists and four tackles for losses. In 2016, he struggled with injuries but still managed 10 solo tackles, five assists and three sacks.

“He definitely has a lot of potential,” Donovan said. “He’s like a big sponge. He wants to learn and we will mold him into a great university football player.

“Mike is always in the gym. You have to see him train. He’s just hungry. He is definitely going to be the hardest working player on and off the field.”

Foresta checks in at six foot two, 280 pounds. He has exceptional athleticism for a big man. His vertical leap is 33 inches.

“With his size, work ethic and athletic ability, the sky is the limit,” Donovan said.

Because of his intense commitment to training, Foresta half-jokingly refers to himself as a monster.

“My game? It’s power, strength, speed,” he said.

Several universities recruited him, but the Laval, Que. native choose Concordia because he wants to continue playing football with some of his Vanier teammates who now suit up for the Stingers and he likes the direction the program is going.

“The team is getting better and better,” Foresta said. “I want to play for the coaches here and I want to win. I see a great future at Concordia.”
