Hard working DB Jacob Nutbrown commits to Stingers

Defensive co-ordinator Patrick Donovan is pleased to announce versatile defensive back Jacob Nutbrown from Champlain College, Lennoxville, has committed to the Concordia Stingers football program.

Nutbrown was a two-time all-star at Alexander Galt Regional High School before joining the Champlain Cougars in 2013 when he was a member of the Bol d’Or championship team.

In 2015 he joined the Bishop’s Gaiters and had 30.5 tackles in six games. He chose to sit out the 2016 season and transfer to Concordia where he started classes last September. He will join the Stingers on the field for winter/spring practices.

“Jacob brings a lot to the table,” said Donovan. “He’s very athletic and at six foot two, he has good size. He can play defensive back or linebacker. What’s impressed me the most is his leadership on and off the field. He’s hard working and our players are going to look up to him.

“We believe he’s a step-in player.”

The Lennoxville, Que. native has turned heads with his 37-inch vertical leap and his football instincts.

“I’m a smart football player,” said Nutbrown of his style of play. “I understand the game well and I’m able to see what’s developing on the field, what’s going on in front of me.”

Nutbrown was impressed with head coach Mickey Donovan and Patrick Donovan when they recruited him at Champlain in 2014. When he decided it was time for a change, he knew he wanted to play for the Donovans.

“I really like the coaches – Mickey and Pat – and I think they are taking the Stingers in the right direction,” Nutbrown said. “I like that the coaches care about your education. I also like the vibe from the players at Concordia. It’s almost like a brotherhood.”
