Katherine Puchase of the women’s hockey team and Scott Oke of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 22.
Purchase, a third-year goaltender, was exceptional in the Stingers’ lone game last week. She turned away 18 of 19 shots to help Concordia defeat the No. 5-ranked McGill Martlets 3-1. She was calm throughout a spirited game and came up with some clutch saves in the third period.
A 20-year-old native of Halifax, Purchase is studying Accounting at Concordia’s John Molson School of Business.
Oke, a third-year forward, was involved in every goal the Stingers scored in two games last week. He notched Concordia’s lone goal in a tough 2-1 overtime loss at the hands of the McGill Redmen last Friday. The following day he netted two goals and an assist in a 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
The 23-year-old athlete from St. Lambert, Que. is an Economics student.
