Rookie Vince Alessandrini named MVP of football team

Rookie slotback Vince Alessandrini was presented the Warrior Trophy as the MVP of the Concordia Stingers football team at its annual banquet held at Molson Breweries on Saturday evening.

A native of Laval, Que. who joined the Stingers in 2016, Alessandrini was named the RSEQ Offensive Rookie of the Year last November. He led the Quebec league with 52 receptions in eight games. He also rolled up 554 yards of offence and scored one touchdown.

The freshman out of Vanier College ranked fifth in the CIS national statistics for receptions. Alessandrini carved out a place in the Concordia football record book. In 2015 veteran receiver Daniel Skube caught 60 passes to set the Stinger record for receptions. Alessandrini sits in second place for most catches in a season. He is tied with Cory Watson, now with the Edmonton Eskimos, who hauled in 52 passes in 2009.

Pat Davis Trophy – Outstanding Rookie of Defence – DB Mike Asibou, LB Sam Brodrique

Peter Regimbald Trophy – Special Teams Player of the Year – WR Damian Massey-Hirt

Ricky Zieba Award – Best Work Ethic – RB Tanner Green

Larry Cullen Jr. Memorial Award – Sportsmanship – DE Andrew Barlett

Ed Meagher Award – Best combines academics, athletics and community sevice – QB Trenton Miller

Gerry McGrath Award – Most Improved Player – OG Maurice Bibaku

Tradition dictates that graduating seniors get to address the crowd. Saying their goodbyes were: SB Jahlani Gilbert-Knorren, DE Andrew Barlett, SB Daniel Skube, WR Damian Massey-Hirt, LB Yamil Slim and DT Aldo Cione.
