Men's Hockey ready for Queen's in Round 2 of playoffs

For the first time since 2001, the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team has advanced to the second round of the OUA playoffs and will meet the Queen’s Gaels in a best-of-three series beginning Wednesday night at the Ed Meagher Arena on the Loyola campus.

Concordia finished in second place in the OUA East Division with a 19-7-2 record. The Stingers eliminated the UOIT Ridgebacks in the opening round of playoffs taking the series two games to one.

Queen’s wrapped up the regular season in third place with an 18-7-3 record – just one point behind Concordia. The Gaels knocked out the Ottawa Gee-Gees. That series also went three games.

The Stingers and the Gaels met twice in regular season play. Queen’s won the first game 2-1 on Nov. 19, while Concordia took the second meeting 6-3 on Feb. 10.

Concordia has advanced to the playoffs 15 times in the last 20 years. However, the Stingers had trouble getting past their opening round opponents. The last time they won a series and advanced to the second round was in 2001 when Concordia eliminated the McGill Redmen in two straight games.
