Marilyse Roy Viau of the women’s basketball team and Dominic Beauchemin of the men’s hockey team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 19.
Roy Viau, a fifth-year forward, was exceptional in a big 58-53 victory over the McGill Martlets last Thursday. She picked up 14 points to lead all Stingers in the game. She also had five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Currently, she is the third leading scorer in the RSEQ averaging 14.9 points a game.
A 25-year-old native of Mirabel, Que., Roy Viau is working on a degree in Leisure Science.
Beauchemin, a third-year left wing, earned the praise of head coach Marc-André Élement for his exceptional play in Concordia’s playoff series versus the UOIT Ridgebacks last week. He had three assists in three games and was a constant offensive threat. He also stepped up as a leader. His efforts were instrumental in helping the Stingers win the series and advance to the second round of action.
The 23-year-old athlete from Longueuil, Que. is in Human Relations at Concordia.
