Claudia Dubois of the women’s hockey team and Vincent De Marinis of the men’s wrestling team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 26.
Dubois, a second-year forward, played a huge role in her team’s semifinal win over the No. 8-ranked Montréal Carabins. The Stingers swept the defending national champions in two straight games. In a 6-2 victory last Thursday, Dubois scored three goals, including the game-winner, and added two assists. On Saturday she scored two more goals in a 3-2 victory. Once again she had the game-winner.
A 22-year-old native of Chicoutimi, Que., Dubois is working on a Certificate of Arts and Science.
De Marinis, a fourth-year student-athlete, won a gold medal in the 65 kg weight class at the U SPORTS wrestling championship in Winnipeg on Saturday. He won his preliminary matches on Friday and then defeated Brock University’s Mizam Tamaradze in the gold medal match on Saturday. His efforts helped the Stingers finish sixth at the championship.
The 23-year-old athlete from Pierrefonds, Que. is a Finance major at Concordia.
