All-Canadian honours for rugby's Laetitia Royer

Second-year lock Laetitia Royer has been named to the U SPORTS second all-Canadian team for women’s rugby. The honours were announced Thursday morning in Lethbridge, Alta., as part of the celebrations surrounding the 2017 national championship.

Royer first started playing rugby in 2016 and sheer determination and effort have placed her among the top university rugby players in Canada. She played with the Ottawa Irish in the summer of 2016 and made the jump to university a few months later.

In 2017, the Lorretville, Que. native, scored five tries in seven games for the Concordia Stingers. She was named an RSEQ first team all-star.

“She just works hard,” says Concordia head coach Graeme McGravie. “She has put the hours and effort into training, and it’s paid off in spades.

“She’s a physical force out on the field whether she has the ball or is playing defence. She’s not someone you want to run towards.”

She joins teammate Frédérique Rajotte on the honour roll. Rajotte is a first team all-Canadian and U SPORTS player of the year.
