Stingers join field at men's rugby nationals

The Concordia Stingers are part of a field of six teams vying for the title at the inaugural Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship kicking off this afternoon at the University of Guelph.

Each team will play two matches during the first three days of the tournament, with the gold and bronze medal matches set for Sunday. The tournament format features 30-minute halves (instead of the usual 40-minute halves) and teams will not be limited to eight substitutions, thus allowing their entire 26-man rosters to be utilized.

The Stingers are in a pool with the McMaster Marauders and the UBC Thunderbirds. The second pool consists of the Guelph Gryphons, UPEI and the Victoria Vikes.

The first game for Concordia is today at noon versus UBC. The Thunderbirds are one of the tournament favourites. UBC is the three-time defending champions in its league.

Concordia earned its way into the tournament with a dominating performance in the RSEQ conference that culminated with a 35-7 win over ETS in the championship game last Sunday.
