Jazlin Barker of the women’s basketball team and Marc-Antoine Turcotte of the men’s hockey team have been named the Subway-Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 26.
Barker, a senior guard with the Stingers, was instrumental in helping Concordia pick up a 73-67 come-from-behind victory over the UQAM Citadins on Saturday. She tallied 23 points, six assists and six rebounds in the game. Ten of her points came in the final quarter which started with the Stingers trailing 57-45.
A 22-year-old native of Toronto, Barker is working on a Certificate in Arts and Science at Concordia.
Turcotte, a second-year goaltender with the Stingers, backstopped Concordia to two victories on the road on the weekend. He turned away 30 of 31 shots in a 3-1 win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks last Friday. The following night, he stopped 50 of 51 shots to help the Stingers defeat the Waterloo Warriors 6-1.
The 22-year-old student from Châteauguay, Que., is in Independent Studies at Concordia.
