Dynamic cégep basketball player commits to Stingers

Head coach Tenicha Gittens is pleased to announce guard Myriam Leclerc, the highly accomplished captain of the Cégep de Saint-Foy Dynamiques, will join the Concordia Stingers women’s basketball program for the 2018-19 season.

A five-foot-eight native Saint-Roch-de-Richelieu, Que., Leclerc is having an exceptional season with Ste. Foy. With an average of 19.1 points a game, she is currently the leading scorer in RSEQ Division 1 college ranks. She also leads the league with 3.7 assists a game and she is third in steals with an average of 3.1.

“Myriam will bring size and depth for us at the point guard/shooting guard position,” said Gittens. “Her ability to handle the ball and run offence, as well as play off the ball and score in different ways will undoubtedly be an asset to us next season and beyond.

“She is one of the top players in Quebec and we are extremely happy to welcome her to our women’s basketball family.”

With Ste. Foy, Leclerc won the 2016 RSEQ championship and helped her team finish fourth at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) nationals.

“It is important to bring in players that have championship experience,” said Gittens. “It will help her succeed at this level.”

Leclerc has a long list of basketball achievements. Last summer she was one of 24 athletes invited to Canada’s U19 national team tryouts. She was named a second team all-Canadian at the CCAA national championship in 2016.

She was a member of Team Quebec’s U15 program in 2012 and 2013. Leclerc also represented Quebec at the U17 level in 2014 and 2015.

She was named the outstanding student-athlete in the RSEQ high school juvenile basketball league in 2015 while at École Fernand-Lefebvre. She also earned a Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec (FAEQ) award of $4000 in 2015 in recognition of her academic excellence.
