Allard, Carter – Subway Athletes of the Week

Marie-Joëlle Allard of the women’s hockey team and Francis Carter of the wrestling team have been named the Subway-Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 25.

Allard, a fifth-year defender and team captain, was exceptional in Concordia’s best-of-three semifinal series with the Ottawa Gee-Gees last week. Her efforts and composure were instrumental in helping limit Ottawa to three goals in three games. She also scored a key goal in an intense 2-1 victory over the Gee-Gees in the third-and-deciding game on Sunday. The win gives the Stingers a spot in the RSEQ finals and a berth at the national championship.

A 25-year-old native of Victoriaville, Que., Allard is working on a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration at Concordia.

Carter, a third-year student-athlete, won a gold medal and was named the outstanding male wrestler at the U SPORTS national championships hosted by Algoma University last Saturday. He won three preliminary matches in the 68 kg weight class last Friday. He defeated Bryce Davis, Algoma Thunderbirds, 10-0; Nathen Schmidt, Regina Cougars, 10-0, and Miles Kent, Alberta Golden Bears, 13-2.

In the gold medal match, he defeated Matt Jagas of the Brock Badgers. It was a 3-2 decision. It was a challenging final for Carter who wrestled smart and came on strong at the end.

The 21-year-old athlete from Montreal, is working on a Specialization in Psychology (Behavioural Neuroscience).
