Stingers, Redmen need 3rd game to decide hockey series

Jerome Verrier scored at 13:40 of overtime to give the McGill Redmen a 3-2 victory over the host Concordia Stingers on Friday night and to force a third-and-deciding Game 3 in the OUA East men's hockey final.

The game will take place at McGill University’s McConnell Arena, 3883 University St., on Sunday at 7 p.m.

It was an epic battle that saw the fourth-ranked Redmen and the eighth-ranked Stingers trade punches before a capacity crowd at the Ed Meagher Arena.

Concordia captain Phil Hudon opened the scoring on a power play at 5:29 in the first period, but 30 seconds later McGill evened it up on a goal from Guillaume Gauthier.

The teams exchanged goals in the second period with McGill’s Mike Cramarossa finding the back of the net at 7:21 and Stinger Massimo Carozza tying the game on the power play at 15:44.

The scored stood at 2-2 until the overtime period.

Concordia outshot McGill 52-47. Marc-Antoine Turcotte was exceptional in nets for the Stingers and Louis-Philip Guindon was the star for the Redmen.
