Lalancette, Turcotte - Subway Athletes of the Week

Stephanie Lalancette of the women’s hockey team and Marc-Antoine Turcotte of the men’s hockey team have been named the Subway-Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending March 4.

Lalancette, a second-year forward with the Stingers, was a standout in Concordia’s RSEQ championship series with the Montréal Carabins. She had two goals and two assists in the three games to help the Stingers win their first Quebec title since 2005. She will be a key contributor when Concordia competes in the U SPORTS championship March 15-18 in London, Ont.

A 21-year-old native of St. Félicien, Que., Lalancette is studying Leisure Sciences at Concordia.

Turcotte, a second-year goaltender, was exceptional in Concordia’s OUA East playoff series versus the McGill Redmen last week. In Game 1, he stopped 43 of 44 shots to help Concordia pick up a 3-1 victory. He was also stellar in the next two games, a couple of hard-fought losses including one in overtime. He faced 40 shots a game and had a save percentage of .925. Turcotte will lead the Stingers this Friday night when they play for an OUA bronze medal and a berth at the national championship.

The 22-year-old athlete from Châteauguay, Que., is an Independent Studies student.
