With four members of the Stingers women’s hockey team invited to represent U SPORTS at Hockey Canada’s annual Summer Showcase, Concordia will boast the largest contingent at the prestigious camp taking place in Calgary next month.
For the third straight year, the U SPORTS All-Stars will take part in the Summer Showcase, an elite camp held at WinSport in Canada Olympic Park from Aug. 2 through Aug. 11. During that period, the university stars will play four games – two against Hockey Canada’s national women’s development team and another pair of contests versus Japan’s national women’s program.
Goaltender Katherine Purchase, defender Marie-Joëlle Allard and forwards Audrey Belzile and Claudia Dubois have been selected to represent U SPORTS. Dubois is attending the camp for a second consecutive year.
“Knowing the many talented players in our league, we are extremely proud of our players earning a spot on the U SPORT roster,” said Stingers head coach Julie Chu. “Their recognition is a reflection of the incredible teammates they surround themselves with each day as well as the commitment they have made to becoming better.
"They are truly tremendous athletes and leaders, and we know they will be great representatives of themselves, our program and Concordia University as they embrace this amazing opportunity.”
Allard, Belzile and Dubois were Quebec conference all-stars in 2018. Purchase has enjoyed a stellar four-year university career and was instrumental in backstopping the Stingers to a bronze medal at the 2018 national championship.
