3 Stingers earn FAEQ recruitment bursaries

Three athletes joining Concordia Stingers programs this fall will receive Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec (FAEQ) recruitment bursaries.

Members of the women’s hockey team earned two of the prestigious awards.

Marie-Joëlle Allard, a top defender coming out of Cégep Limoilou, will receive $3500. She was highly recruited by Canadian and American universities. She scored five goals and added 14 assists in 20 RSEQ games last season. Her efforts helped Limoilou win the 2013 Quebec Cégep championship.

Allard, a native of Victoriaville, Que., will study Exercise Science at Concordia.

Jesse Keca, a highly-touted centre, will receive $3000 from the FAEQ. She comes to Quebec from Kelowna where she played with a number of British Columbia provincial teams. In 2012, she attended Canada’s national under-18 training camp. Keca is also one of Canada’s top young short track speed skaters.

Keca will study Management in Concordia’s prestigious John Molson School of Business.

The FAEQ will also present wrestler Vincent De Marinis with a bursary for $2500. The Vanier College graduate will study Finance at Concordia.

The athletes will receive their bursaries at a gala in late November.

The FAEQ is an independent organization comprised of stakeholders from different backgrounds, including business, education and sport. Its mission is to provide financial support to elite student-athletes and to promote them as role models in Quebec society. It has awarded more than $3.4 million over the last five years.
