Stingers No. 6 in nation after McGill sweep

When the CIS released its Top 10 rankings earlier today, the Concordia Stingers women’s basketball team had moved into the No. 6 spot in the nation.

Heading into last week’s schedule the Stingers were ranked eighth. Then a two-game sweep of the McGill Martlets, who occupied the No. 6 spot a week ago and were undefeated in the RSEQ conference, gave Concordia the forward momentum.

Kaylah Barrett, a fourth-year all-Canadian guard, was the top performer in the back-to-back wins. In a 63-53 victory last Thursday, she scored 18 points and added seven rebounds. Two days later she scored 18 points and had another five rebounds in a 49-47 victory. She led all scorers in both games.

Barrett was named Concordia and RSEQ Female Athlete of the Week based on the exceptional performances.

The wins move the Stingers into sole possession of first place in the RSEQ standings. Concordia boasts a 7-3 win-loss record while McGill falls to 6-2.
