Morais, De Marinis - PJ's Pub Athletes of the Week

Linda Morais of the women’s wrestling team and Vince De Marinis of the men’s wrestling team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending March 2.

Morais, a third-year athlete, won the 63 kg weight class at the CIS national championships last Saturday. She defeated Larissa D’Alleva from Western University to win the gold medal. It’s the third medal in three years for Morais. She won a bronze as a rookie in 2012 and earned a gold last year. She also took home the R.W. Pugh Fair Play Award for her efforts at the nationals. 

A 20-year-old native of Tecumseh, Ont., she is currently studying Exercise Science at Concordia. 

De Marinis, a rookie with the wrestling team, won a silver medal at 61 kg at the university national championship on the weekend. He went undefeated in the preliminary rounds but lost his final match to Michael Asselstine from University of Alberta. Of the six Concordia wrestlers competing in the men’s competition, he had the best results.

The 20-year-old student from Montreal studies Economics at Concordia.
