Shell, Allard earn RSEQ women's hockey honors

Two members of the Concordia Stingers were on the honor roll when the RSEQ announced its 2013-14 all-stars and major award winners last week.

Jaymee Shell, a fourth-year right wing from Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Que., won the conference Leadership and Citizenship Award. She goes forward as Quebec’s nominee for the CIS’s Marion Hillard Award which acknowledges excellence in hockey, academics and community involvement.

An assistant captain with the Stingers, she was second on the team in scoring with five goals and six assists in 20 games.

Shell is an Exercise Science major with a minor in multi-disciplinary studies. Her last annual GPA was 4.13 out of 4.3. She graduates this spring and has made applications to medical school.

As part of her community involvement this past summer, Shell represented Canada in softball at the 2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel.

This season she co-ordinated the Stingers women’s hockey team’s volunteer involvement with the N.D.G. Food Bank as well as an Exercise Science Wellness Week that helped raise $3100 for the Lymphedema Association of Quebec. Shell also organized a blood drive at the Concordia athletic complex.

Marie-Joëlle Allard, a top defender coming out of Cégep Limoilou last year, was named to the RSEQ all-rookie team. She had a major impact in every game she played for the Stingers. Allard proved to be a great leader with exceptional composure. She excelled at the first pass out of the Stingers’ zone and was very hard to beat in one-on-one situations. She picked up two assists in 20 games this season.

The native of Victoriaville, Que. is a top student in the Exercise Science program at Concordia.
