Stingers men's basketball announces 3 LOIs

The Concordia Stingers men’s basketball program is pleased to announce three top Quebec players have signed Letters of Intent (LOIs) and will join the team for the 2014-15 season.

Ken Beaulieu, a 2014 RSEQ first team all-star from Collège Édouard-Montpetit, is expected to have an immediate impact. The six-foot-four small forward averaged 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds a game this past season.

“He is a tremendous athlete who excels in the open court and can guard multiple positions defensively,” said Rastko Popovic, the Stingers’ assistant coach in charge of recruiting.

Also out of the Édouard-Montpetit Lynx program is Garry Merisier, a six-foot guard who had an average of 11.2 points and 8.2 rebounds in 18 games last season.

“Garry is an outstanding rebounder for his height,” said Popovic. “His tenacity and defensive intensity will be a great addition to our team next year.”

The Stingers can boast of another RSEQ all-star with the addition of Ricardo Monge from John Abbott College. The six-foot point guard scored 9.9 points and hauled in 4.6 rebounds in 17 games with the Islanders.

“Ricardo is a true pass-first point guard that looks to make his teammates better,” Popovic said. “He will be a great addition to our program for many years to come. Ricardo was one of seven student-athletes in the RSEQ men’s basketball first division to earn academic honors.”

The Stingers are enjoying an exceptional recruiting campaign and will announce several more LOIs shortly.
