QMJHL blueliners commit to Concordia hockey

 

Head coach Kevin Figsby is pleased to announce defencemen François Godin and Francis Turbide have committed to the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey program.

Godin comes to Concordia to study Psychology after four seasons in the QMJHL with the Victoriaville Tigers, Acadie-Bathurst Titan and most recently with the Quebec Remparts.

The six-foot, 185-pound defenceman from Le Gardeur, Que. played 215 games in the major junior ranks, picking up 10 goals and 82 assists for 92 points.

“He’s a skilled defenceman who can carry the puck and get it out of the zone quickly,” Figsby said. “He has great vision and is a great passer who finds guys who are open.”

Turbide also spent four years in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads and the last three seasons with the Baie Comeau Drakkar. The latter finished first in the junior ranks in 2013-14 with 47 victories and 99 points in 68 games. The Drakkars went to the league finals and lost a tough best-of-seven series to the Val d’Or Foreurs.

The six-foot-four, 195-pound native of Trois Rivières, Que. played 265 games in the major junior league, collecting 20 goals and 48 assists.

“He’s very versatile and can play defence or forward,” Figsby said. “He has a tremendous shot, he kills penalties and he will help us get the puck out of our end.”

Turbide is an accomplished student who will study in the prestigious Actuarial Math program.
