Veteran QMJHL players to bolster Stinger lineup

Head coach Kevin Figsby is pleased to announce two accomplished hockey players from the Quebec junior ranks have committed to the Concordia Stingers men's hockey program.

Right wing Scott Oke, who spent four seasons in the QMJHL including with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in 2013-14, and forward Victor Provencher, who split four seasons between the PEI Rocket and the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, will report to the Stingers' training camp in September.

Oke, a resident of Candiac, Que. who checks in at six foot four and 205 pounds, played 252 games in the major junior league scoring 64 goals and 95 assists for 159 points.

He was a member of the Memorial Cup champion Saint John Sea Dogs in 2010-11.

“Scott is a rugged power winger who will be one of the top six forwards on our team,” said Figsby. “He will add offence to the team and is expected to contribute on the power play.”

At five foot 11 and 190-pounds, Provencher is a versatile skater who played 261 games in the QMJHL. He collected 58 goals and 61 assists for 119 points in his career. He also notched 387 minutes in penalties.

“He's a great two-way forward who can play centre or wing,” Figsby said of the St. Jean, Que. native. “He is expected to add to the offence and will be counted on in key game situations.”

Oke and Provencher join Francis Turbide and François Godin, another couple of QMJHL stalwarts who recently committed to the Stingers, in Figsby’s 2014 recruiting class.

“We're getting close to the ideal team profile,” said the veteran coach. “We've added strength and added scoring up front. And I'm not done yet.”
