6th Texan joins Stingers football team

Concordia head coach Mickey Donovan is pleased to announce offensive guard Kenny Johnson from Fort Worth, Texas, has committed to the Stingers football program and is at training camp.

In 2012, Johnson graduated from Western Hills High School in Benbrook, Texas, where he was on the honor roll for four consecutive years. He will study Biology at Concordia.

At Western Hills, he was a first team all-district player and also named a preseason all-state lineman.

Johnson was with the Southwestern Oklahoma State football program in 2012 and at Missouri Valley College in 2013.

Donovan is excited to have him with the Stingers.

“There's a lot of good things you can say about Kenny,” said the coach. “Since he's been here we’ve seen a team-first guy who is intelligent and very athletic. He's plays smart and is quickly catching on to the Canadian game. He's already looking like a key player on the o-line.”

The Stingers have been on the field twice a day since last Friday and will continue with intense training this week. They travel to Kingston, Ont. to meet the Queen's Gaels in a preseason contest on Sunday, Aug. 24.
