Gaw, Tatum - PJ's Pub Athletes of the Week

Hughanna Gaw of the women's rugby team and Gunner Tatum of the football team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 7.

Gaw, a fifth-year No. 8, was instrumental in helping the Stingers defeat the Carleton Ravens 29-17 in their season opener on Saturday night in Ottawa. She scored two tries and was named the game MVP. Head coach Graeme McGravie says, “Defensively, she was the best player on the field and she had the team going forward when we needed it.

”A 26-year-old native of Elgin, Que., Gaw studies in the Leisure Science program at Concordia.

Tatum, a first-year running back, rushed for 192 yards and a touchdown to help the Stingers defeat the Bishop’s Gaiters 25-15 on Saturday afternoon. He tied an RSEQ conference record for most carries in a single game. With 35 carries he joins former Bishop’s star Jamall Lee (Sept. 19, 2008 vs. McGill) in the No. 1 spot in the record book.

The 19-year-old student from Crane, Texas is enrolled in the Sociology program at Concordia.
