Stingers drop to 3rd place in football standings

A battered Concordia Stingers football team lost 36-3 to the Montreal Carabins at Concordia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Carabins quarterback Gabriel Cousineau completed 23 of 27 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns to lead Montreal to victory.

His play was instrumental in helping the No. 5-ranked Carabins improve their win-loss record to 5-1 and take sole possession of second place in the RSEQ.

The No. 9-ranked Stingers fall to 4-2 and are alone in third place ahead of the fourth-place Sherbrooke Vert & Or who have a 2-3 record.

With six offensive starters sitting out with injuries, Concordia struggled on offence. The Stingers had just seven first downs and 161 yards of offence. The only points were scored by kicker Keegan Treloar who connected on a 46-yard field goal in the second quarter.

The Carabins rolled up 18 first downs and 374 yards of offence, mostly from a passing game that accounted for 345 yards. Philip Enchill was the favorite target with eight catches for 114 yards.

Concordia has a much-needed bye next week and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 against the Vert & Or in Sherbrooke.
